After the derailment of the freight train at Castello, regional traffic between the stations of Florence Smn and Prato resumed this morning, but there were some cancellations, already scheduled yesterday to allow technicians to continue the restoration work, and several delays ranging from 5 to 40 minutes, according to what can be read on the timetables at the station.
With the first morning trains, circulation has also resumed on the tracks of the conventional line where regional, Intercity and freight trains pass. The work of Rfi technicians, started after the removal of the misdirected wagon, has allowed the conditions to be restored to restart circulation albeit with a small reduction in supply.
During the period of interruption of the conventional line, a replacement bus service was activated to guarantee mobility and a shuttle service with Frecciarossa between Bologna and Florence for the passengers of the Intercity trains involved.
Throughout yesterday, Trenitalia and Rfi increased assistance in stations and on board trains, thanks also to the contribution of office staff. This was announced by the FS press office.
As for the High Speed trains, the situation has returned to normal: there are few delays, between 5 and 15 minutes. Unlike yesterday when there were hundreds of people waiting, this morning the Santa Maria Novella Station is without the long queues but more crowded.
"We're finally able to leave ," smiles Michele, an Italian, along with his Colombian wife, in-laws, and brother-in-law. " Yesterday we came here to the station; we were supposed to take the train to Naples. We waited hours, but in the end we decided to extend our stay in Florence by one night, and soon we should finally be leaving."
Someone else, given yesterday's events, decided to arrive early, but so far there are no problems. "We arrived at the station a little early ," two young people said, " but our train is on time."
