On Thursday 4 May, at 17.30:XNUMX pm, in the main hall of the “Plinio seniore” high school in Castellammare di Stabia, on the occasion of the national celebrations of the two thousandth anniversary of the birth of Pliny the Elder, the commemorative meeting “The pathos of knowledge and mystery” will be held.
After the welcome greetings of the Headmistress, Prof. Fortunella Santaniello, Prof. Carmen Matarazzo, President of the Certamen Plinianum Association, and Prof. Anna Esposito, President of FIDAPA BPW, the journalist Luigi Vicinanza, President of the CIVES/MAV Foundation of Ercolano, will speak to explain how the past can be told through the eyes of the future, Prof. Flavio Russo who will entertain the guests on the route to Pompeii of Pliny the Elder and the archaeologist Gianmatteo Matullo who will tell the story of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, through the letter to Tacitus of his nephew Pliny the Younger.
The meeting, moderated by Prof. Pierluigi Fiorenza, will be followed by a performance by the students of the “Plinio Seniore” high school who will recall the environments of Stabiae.
The event is sponsored by the National Committee for the celebrations of the two thousandth anniversary of the birth of Pliny the Elder (23/2023 PLINY/BIMILLENARY).
