Six months after the Casamicciola flood, important news for the reconstruction were announced this morning during a joint press conference held by the commissioner delegated for the Ischia emergency, Giovanni Legnini and the mayor of Casamicciola, Giosi Ferrandino.
The first news concerns the dredging of the Casamicciola port, whose operation has been greatly reduced by the mud that flowed into the port basin following the flood, and for which the works have been awarded, which will last a month and will start next Monday; the excavation will be carried out by means of a dredger that will have to remove over 15 thousand cubic meters of mud that has resulted from the analyses not to be polluted and can therefore be disposed of in the sea off the island of Ischia.
During the conference, which opened with a minute of silence in memory of the 12 victims of the flood and which was also attended by the mayors of Ischia Porto, Lacco Ameno and Serrara Fontana, the vice president of the region Fulvio Bonavitacola in a video conference and the heads of the island's law enforcement agencies, three ordinances were also presented that will provide concrete support to the people and companies affected by the natural disaster of last November 26.
The first of these ordinances recognizes 100% compensation to businesses directly damaged by the flood but also to citizens whose homes were flooded and damaged, who require immediate repairs, as well as full compensation for safety measures carried out outside their respective properties. Furthermore, the terms for requesting contributions intended for businesses affected by the earthquake pursuant to ordinance 18 have been reopened.
With the other measure adopted by Commissioner Legnini, Casamicciola is moving even closer to normality as the red zone is further restricted by reopening some important roads: via Nizzola, via Santa Barbara and Seconda Traversa Santa Barbara. The redefinition of the red zone will be subject to the effectiveness of some safety measures identified by the experts and technicians of the commissioner's structure.
Also approved was the plan prepared by SMA Campania for the reuse of materials resulting from the landslide and the acceleration of a block of urgent interventions, also providing for the start and planning of new interventions, with a very tight timetable.
The third ordinance that will be issued in a few days (after the examination of the island mayors and regional offices) concerns the overall safety plan, as provided for by art. 5 ter of the Ischia Decree, and constitutes a crucial provision: it is in fact the first real plan to combat hydrogeological instability launched for the island.
