On Wednesday, May 31st, at 18.00:XNUMX pm, Black Box hosts Jeff Staple, one of the most illustrious figures in global street culture, who will present his book “Jeff Staple: Not Just Sneakers” published by Rizzoli.
In this important editorial work, the author invites the reader to retrace, through archive images, amateur sketches, drawings, stories and products, his 25-year career. To make this editorial work even more precious, many authoritative contributions, including those of two icons of street culture: the Japanese musician, record producer and designer Hiroshi Fujiwara and Futura, one of the first graffiti artists of the New York scene to exhibit in the art gallery circuit. The appointment is in the spaces of CASA Centro delle Arti, della Scena e dell'Audiovisivo, at Calata Trinità Maggiore 53.
The event is organized and proposed as part of the project “Knowledge is Power – Knowledge is Power”, which aims to spread culture. In a world dominated by the pursuit of “hype”, which creates and destroys everything with extreme speed, “Knowledge is Power” is the mission with which Black Box wants to involve the new generations by promoting meetings and activities on street culture, from art to fashion to music, giving voice to those who contributed to the birth of the movement.
For the first time in Naples, Staple offers an extraordinary journey into an intricate labyrinth of knowledge and history. The prestigious place he occupies today in street culture is the result of a story that began in 1997 with a t-shirt he printed during his screen printing class at the Parsons School of Design in New York. From this single piece, Staple created a small handmade collection, which attracted the attention of the streetwear scene and earned him important collaborations such as the one with Nike, which in 2005 asked him to create a special commemorative sneaker to represent New York. In addition to Nike, there are many international brands in which traces of Staple's brilliant creativity can be found. Jeff Staple, entrepreneur, designer and sneakerhead, is the founder and creative director of the brand Staple Pigeon, of the design agency Reed Art Department (formerly known as Staple Design Studio) and host of the podcast Business of HYPE on Hypebeast.
