The Carabinieri of the Operational Nucleus of the Civitavecchia Company have arrested, in flagrante delicto, two men originally from the province of Naples, aged 18 and 22, seriously suspected of aggravated improper robbery in competition, committed against an elderly woman over eighty years old.
The events occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday 16 May in Civitavecchia, a few steps from the seafront, with the now well-known technique of the "fake nephew": the old woman, contacted by telephone, had been convinced by her so-called nephew that she had to pay off a debt and that, in a few minutes, an unspecified friend of his would come by to collect all the available cash and, failing that, also some jewellery.
When he actually showed up, something went wrong for the accomplice during the delivery of the valuables: a doubt, an uncertainty at the last moment and the elderly woman, instinctively, tried to hold him by the sweatshirt, but was instead hit with a punch in the face by the subject who then immediately fled.
The immediate searches carried out by the Carabinieri along the entire northern coast of the province of Rome after the victim's call to 112 allowed them to stop the two suspects, after a brief chase, near the A-12 junction of Maccarese, evidently in an attempt to return to Naples, and to find the valuables on board their vehicle.
The two men were arrested and associated at the Nuovo Complesso Borgata Aurelia prison in Civitavecchia, while the stolen goods were returned to the victim. This is what the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Rome said in a note.
