Sentenced, together, to the same penalty. Elena Gioia and Giovanni Limata will have to serve 24 years in prison for killing her father, Aldo, 52. The two fiancés, she just 18 at the time of the events, and he 23, could not stand the Gioia family's aversion to their relationship, made up of thousands of chat messages, and very few opportunities to spend time together.
The Assize Court, in the immediate trial, fully accepted the requests of the prosecutor Vincenzo Russo and also ordered compensation for the family. Aldo Gioia's brothers have joined the civil action against the young man and his niece.
The facts date back to the evening of April 23, 2021, when Aldo Gioia, who had fallen asleep on the sofa at home, found Giovanni Limata on top of him, while he was hitting him several times with a hunting knife. The man bled to death in the hospital, despite his wife and other daughter having asked for help.
Limata had entered the apartment in a building on Corso Vittorio Emanuele thanks to Elena, who had pretended to go out to throw out the garbage and had left the front door open. She then locked herself in her room, waiting for Giovanni to finish everything. They had planned to exterminate the entire family.
They did not succeed, because Giovanni hesitated in front of the screams of Elena's mother and sister. The young man ran away in a daring way to his home, in Cervinara, where the police then came to pick him up. Elena stayed at home, pretending that robbers had attacked her father. A version that Aldo Gioia confirmed, in order to save his daughter.
The mother also tried to protect the girl, but when she learned that her husband had died in the hospital, she completely changed her attitude. The two fiancés have not had any contact since the day of the arrest. Limata also tried to commit suicide in prison two years ago.
