The boss of the Monti Lattari mafia, Leonardo Di Martino o'Lione, used to give orders to his affiliated pushers directly from prison via cell phone: this is what the Guardia di Finanza discovered when they busted a gang of drug dealers with an operational base in Gragnano , in the province of Naples.

The investigations by the Massa Lubrense Guardia di Finanza , coordinated by the Naples DDA , led to the notification of 9 precautionary measures issued by the investigating judge: three arrests in prison, 3 under house arrest, 2 bans from residing in Naples and the province and one obligation to remain in one's residence.

Among the people involved in the investigation are his wife Anna Maria Molinari , his son who is untraceable and Valeria Carsana , wife of Antonio Carfora, son of the life-sentenced boss Nicola Carfora, known as 'o fuoco.

The charges include conspiracy to traffic narcotics and possession of cocaine and marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. Investigators reconstructed various incidents of drug possession and dealing that occurred on the Sorrento Peninsula between May and November 2021.

“The operation of the Guardia di Finanza, coordinated by the DDA of Naples, which ascertained the command from prison, conveniently via cell phone, of the drug pushers and the gang with operational headquarters in Gragnano confirms that the prisons of Campania are not only the major drug hubs, as occurred in the recent operation in the institute of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, but also of command, for a turnover of 10 million euros per year”.

This is yet another warning raised by Aldo Di Giacomo, Secretary General of the Penitentiary Police Union, who says that "clan leaders continue to organize drug trafficking from their cells throughout the country. Thus, detention, which should represent the end of a 'criminal career,'" he adds, "is continually transformed, cementing relationships with inmates and fueling the criminal economy needed, especially to support the inmates' families."

While for drug-addicted prisoners, it is the family members who pay directly for the supply of drugs in the cell. More recently, they have resorted to the use of drones and even a soccer ball stuffed with drugs. With incomes for the clans of millions of euros, while increasingly rare are the cases of mothers and wives who bring drugs taking advantage of the conversation with the relative.

Obviously – continues the secretary of the S.PP. – this happens because the demand for drugs in prison is high: the presence of prisoners classified as drug addicts upon entry is around 18 thousand (just under 30% of the total) for whom the so-called “scaling program” with the administration of methadone has given very poor results.

It is no coincidence that the recidivism rate for these prisoners, once out, is very high. To this we must add that three out of 10 prisoners are only drug dealers and not consumers. These are things that unfortunately we have been repeating for at least 5 years without anything happening except during operations like today's except to show media interest that is limited to a couple of days".
