With the reindustrialization project of the former area Whirlpool The Naples-based Tea Tek Group's "plan to absorb over 300 former Whirlpool workers and hire additional workers, including a large female workforce," said Felice Granisso, CEO of Tea Tek Group.

The project presented by Tea Tek represents the first truly 'green' factory in Naples, and is part of the city's most innovative sector. Our contribution, right from the start, is generating enormous enthusiasm in Naples: resolving the industrial crisis after four years has been a great satisfaction, a 'scudetto' for a company founded in Naples, which is winning in Italy and making inroads into the Italian and European markets in a sector, the energy sector, which is heavily dependent on foreign markets.

"We ask the institutions to evaluate the 'Special Economic Zones' (ZES) model not only for the Whirlpool case: the procedure that allowed the area to be taken over represents a virtuous fact, a process of reducing bureaucracy that could be followed to resolve the many industrial crises in the South.

There's no need for the entire South to become a special area, as Commissioner Giosy Romano stated. It would be enough to address the bureaucratic aspects, streamlining them while respecting the role of all stakeholders. Especially considering that when workers are on furlough, reactivating production reduces social welfare costs and revitalizes a region's economy.

"The procedure for awarding the former Whirlpool site by the Campania Special Economic Zone (ZES) has involved several formal steps, starting with Tea Tek Group winning the tender for the reindustrialization of the area. First, we need to discuss the project with the trade unions and institutions with whom we want to share our company's vision. Then, we'll begin work on the area, which requires necessary safety measures, and then we'll move on to the operational aspects. We hope for a short timeframe, but one that's adequate to achieve success."
