Article Key Points
The 8th edition of Maggio all'infanzia Campania has come to life: the school-made theater festival scheduled at the Teatro dei Piccoli in Naples, every day, for over 2 weeks. Until May 23, at 11 am and 16 pm, in front of an audience of families and schools, the event will stage the 45 shows created by 931 students from 10 schools between Naples, Pozzuoli and Salerno as part of the award-winning project TEATRO SCUOLA VEDERE FARE (TSVF) conceived by Casa del Contemporaneo with Le Nuvole di Napoli and the collaboration of AGITA and Casa dello Spettatore di Roma.
This is what it is about: a project lasting an entire school year on making and seeing theatre aimed at the new generations, through the involvement of the class group, of which the teacher is an integral part together with the students, aimed at the creation of new theatrical performances in which girls and boys, girls and boys can find in the performing arts familiar and suitable tools with which to express their own poetics.
“With TSVF, theatre integrates the school experience with its own creative modality and places itself alongside the curricular and teaching paths, responding to the need of theatre which is to do, see and reflect on it, finding the key to success in the moment of the encounter intended as an opportunity for dialogue and emotional recovery” – Morena Pauro of Casa del Contemporaneo, creator of the project which was already awarded the Eolo Award in 2020, reports in a note and continues “MAY TO CHILDHOOD is the final moment in which the new generations tell their stories: on stage, deliberately, few theatrical elements, to leave all the space and attention to the students' thoughts that become words and gestures, embody dreams, fears and desires".
THE REVIEW: the program of shows
Many themes were addressed by the students in their performances, from the comparison with the power of natural elements to the many reflections on freedom: that conquered by people in situations of inequality as well as the individual one that is built while defining one's character in an increasingly arid society. Some rewritings of great classics, or rather free adaptations: from Dante's Divine Comedy or Shakespeare's The Tempest but also Pinocchio, CiPì and The Blue Tree. And again the theme of the journey: the one addressed in class, during an entire cycle of studies, and the one that still has to be done along the road that leads to "growing up". Words, gestures and lots of music to experience feelings such as happiness, sweetness, anger, fear and define a language with which to communicate them: the life of the youngest is told and we must stop to listen to it!
TSVF: A project that lasts an entire school year
In practice, each of the 50 participating classes, from kindergarten to secondary school, during school hours attended 3 theatrical performances included in the YOUNG season of Casa del Contemporaneo at the Teatro dei Piccoli in Naples and the Teatro Ghirelli in Salerno, accompanied by as many meetings to introduce them to the vision, and carried out a laboratory course in 5 meetings at school, supported by a multidisciplinary team of experts, in which all the constituent aspects of the final show of MAY TO CHILDHOOD were planned and developed with the teachers.
Teacher training recognized by the Ministry of Education and Merit
The active participation of the class teachers was essential for the success of the project, engaged in extracurricular hours in the training course, free, recognized by the Ministry of Education and Merit, DIDATTICA DELLA VISIONE. A special thanks also goes to the families, together with whom the students also had privileged access to the scheduled shows, in the afternoon and evening hours, of the Coltivare Arte review always curated by Casa del Contemporaneo to bring a conscious theatrical fruition into everyone's daily life, overcoming economic or cultural barriers that sometimes limit access.
CONCLUSIONS: May at the Campania/Puglia Childhood
