Article Key Points
- 1 THE PLOT
Alongside Martina Castellana are the highly appreciated actors, Margherita Rago and Roberto De Angelis, together with the musician singer, Romolo Bianco, ambassador of Neapolitan music in the world. Highly appreciated in America, Bianco, at the director's request, will "sew" almost marking, the fragilities of Rosalinda, a soul balanced on the bastion of life. A reading, perfectly blended, in which De Rosa, strongly marks the dramatic vein of the text waiting to make a show of it.
“Being on stage gives you the opportunity to communicate, especially culture and emotions. – confides Castellana – Antonello's sudden invitation gave me happiness, even though I am not an actress but my need to communicate my emotions allowed me to accept - I will get into the character and feel it as mine. Rosalinda Sprint is a character who opens the doors to all of us for reflection - the illusion of love, disappointment, the desire to fall in love to feel useful, Rosalinda is all of us. This invitation fills me with joy and pride - I have no masks and I will not wear masks playing Rosalinda Sprint - a delicate, fragile, insolent character for defense - because the sidewalk requires good armor to be faced. I am happy with this debut, a beautiful new experience, and I am a person who loves to experiment."
THE PLOT
Naples, 1970s. Rosalinda Sprint is a femminiello who lives in a squalid apartment in Montecalvario, not far from Via Toledo; abandoned by her family, to make ends meet she prostitutes herself and leads a solitary and deprived life, which she manages to bear only thanks to her naive and strong character at the same time, and the help of her friends with high-sounding names (Marlene Dietrich, Camomilla Schultz, Maria Stuarda, Sayonara, Rossicago, Maria Callas, all femminielli like her). Her only entertainment is walking around the city and boat trips to Posillipo, often marred by homophobic attacks or the squalid requests of occasional clients; Rosalinda, however, has a hope in her heart: years earlier a young English soldier, her client, declared his love for her, and promised to come back for her to live with him in the United Kingdom. Rosalinda lives her daily life in the spasmodic wait for the return of her beloved, whose comfort helps her to overcome even the worst misfortunes and humiliations to which she is subjected; a small revenge is represented by the death of her father, who had chased Rosalinda away because of her homosexuality: the girl takes revenge by having sexual intercourse with her own cousin on his deathbed. After the umpteenth mistreatment suffered by a married man, who first has a morbid anal relationship with her, then beats her and finally abandons her, she decides not to wait any longer and invests all her savings to organize a trip to Dover, the boy's homeland.
The journey is long and difficult, but in the end Rosalinda manages to reach Great Britain and track down the boy; however, in the meantime he has married a woman, and chases her away pretending not to know her. Rosalinda remains alone and penniless in an unknown country, deprived of the only hope of having love and a decent life; her fate will be left hanging.
