Naples, the 29-year-old Malian with a criminal record who yesterday attacked the municipal police officer in via Duomo, was arrested for attempted murder, resisting a public official and causing personal injury, as well as reported for illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of causing offence.
Yesterday morning in fact the agents of the General Prevention Office of the Police Headquarters of Napoli and of the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station, during the territorial control service, on the orders of the Operations Centre, intervened in via Duomo following a report of a fight involving gunshots.
The police officers, arriving on the scene, noticed a Local Police officer on the ground who was losing a lot of blood from a head wound and two other Local Police officers who were helping him; the latter pointed out to them a homeless man, near an Italian Army patrol, as the perpetrator of the attack; therefore the officers stopped him but the man cursed them and kicked them until he was finally stopped.
The police also ascertained that, shortly before, while the Local Police officers, ASIA personnel and some social workers were carrying out a cleaning service of the porticoes of the Cathedral, the homeless man had attacked the Local Police officer with an iron rod who, in an attempt to make him desist, had fired several gunshots, wounding him in the leg; the aggressor had, however, continued to hit him with the bar until, with the support of Italian Army personnel, he had been driven away.
