Journalist Massimo Milone died suddenly at the age of 67 after suffering a sudden illness in his Neapolitan home. “To give the news – reports the Rai News website – was the Neapolitan daily Il Roma. Director of Rai Vaticano recently retired, Milone was the central editor-in-chief of Tgr Campania for ten years”.

A law graduate, the journalist has collaborated with the daily newspaper Avvenire since he was young. Having joined Rai in 1979, he followed as a correspondent some of the most important news and political events: the Years of Lead, the 1980 earthquake in Irpinia, the Maradona – Sinagra case. From 2002 to 2008 he was president of the Italian Catholic Press Union.

With the beginning of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy he created the special Il Giubileo di Francesco, broadcast on Rai1 and followed the pontiff's trips to Cuba, the United States and Mexico. He was the author of numerous books and legal essays. The funeral will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 10 May in Naples.

"Usigrai fondly remembers Massimo Milone, who passed away suddenly and prematurely. Massimo Milone's life was spent in Rai and for Rai; first at the editorial office of Tgr di Napoli, where he was the central editor-in-chief, then at the helm of Rai Vaticano, from which he retired a short time ago.

An extroverted, lively personality, a man of dialogue, a builder of bridges and relationships, in the wake of that Catholic-democratic tradition firmly convinced that the Rai should be a pillar of democracy, a public service on the side of the citizens, free from the dictates of politics. Usigrai gathers around his family, colleagues, friends and all those who loved him”. Here is a note from the Usigrai executive:

“A great loss for #NAPLES and for all Italian journalism. Massimo Milone was an extraordinary professional with great sensitivity. The gratitude and memory of the city goes to him”. Thus, on Twitter, the mayor of NAPLES, Gaetano Manfredi, remembers the Rai journalist who passed away today.
