Car parts stolen from the Jambo shopping center in Trentola Ducenta, Caserta, three arrested. The Carabinieri of the San Marcellino Station, following a long and complex investigation, directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples North, have executed an order, which provides for precautionary prison measures against the three individuals, originally from the Neapolitan hinterland.
The investigations, between October 2022 and April 2023, allowed to collect serious evidence of guilt, in various capacities, against the three, considered responsible for aggravated theft in competition. They are seriously suspected of having stolen a catalytic converter from a car parked in the dedicated area of the shopping center.
The investigation activity, based on observation, control and shadowing activities, analysis of private and public video surveillance systems, photographic identification, questioning of victims and persons informed of the facts, the acquisition of rental contracts of the cars used to commit the theft, as well as the scrupulous study of data extrapolated from GPS tracks installed on the same have allowed us to reconstruct in minute detail the illicit activity carried out by today's suspects.
The phenomenon of catalytic converter thefts by cutting off the mufflers of cars has, in fact, seen a dramatic increase in the last two years, not only on the national territory, but especially in the northern area of Naples and throughout the Province of Caserta.
The investigations also revealed that the subjects targeted by the measures are true professionals in this type of theft, a fact that can be deduced from the accurate modus operandi implemented both during the phases of identifying the vehicles "to be stolen" - carried out on board different cars so as not to arouse suspicion - and during the theft phase carried out with synchronized movements to conceal the removal of the catalytic converter at a particularly busy time for a shopping center.
