As part of the anti-illegal trafficking effort, military personnel from the Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples seized 45,7 thousand liters of contraband diesel, 10,7 thousand liters of gasoline, a commercial warehouse and a tanker truck in the municipality of Sant'Anastasia.
During checks carried out along the main roads, a suspicious articulated lorry was identified heading towards a commercial depot owned by a company engaged in the wholesale trade of petroleum products. After the vehicle reached the depot, the unloading operations of the transported diesel fuel were started.
Suspicious of the circumstance, the financial police of the Neapolitan capital entered the storage area to carry out a qualitative and quantitative check of the product, which in the meantime had been partially poured into some underground tanks.
During the operations, none of the subjects present on site were able to justify the presence of the articulated lorry, nor to show transport documents proving the lawful origin of the diesel.
The inspection activities, extended to the entire depot, allowed the detection of the presence of a further significant quantity of petrol not accounted for.
The driver of the vehicle and the legal representative of the commercial warehouse were reported at large to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Nola for the crimes of evasion of assessment and payment of excise duty, as well as for irregularities in the circulation of energy products and for violations of the regulations on fire prevention as the warehouse did not have authorization from the Fire Brigade.
