Two young men aged 19 and 20 were arrested in Rome for a scam on an elderly womanThe two, both residents of the province of Naples, were arrested by the Carabinieri of the Vitinia Station, accused of attempted extortion against a 91-year-old woman.
On the afternoon of May 22nd, in via Gerocarne, the elderly woman received a phone call from a man who asked her to hand over money and jewelry, which would be used to free her nephew who had been kidnapped. But the nephew was at home with his grandmother and after having heard the phone call, he alerted 112.
The Carabinieri intervened on the spot and, shortly after, they saw the two young men arrive at the old woman's house and ask her to hand over money and jewelry, threatening not to release her nephew.
Blocked by the military, who witnessed the scene, the two young people on a trip from Naples, were arrested and taken to the barracks. During the validation hearing, the investigating judge of the Court of Rome validated the arrests and ordered house arrest for both suspects.
