“Getting a degree in a sector that is crucial to me like geology, in such an ancient, prestigious university, is like arriving on the moon, something extraordinary”. This was said by Alberto Angela who today received from the rector of the university Frederick II of Naples Matteo Lorito, the honorary master's degree in Geology and Applied Geology.
“Above all,” he added, “I want to emphasize the warmth, not only of the people, but also of those who teach science, professors, directors, even the magnificent Rector, you see them as people who are aligned in the same mission of which you are a part. This is also a great group and it is important to work as a group to be able to find solutions for the future.”
Angela highlighted that "Campania is a place where geology is very active but civilizations were born: perhaps we should take an example from this past to understand how to overcome this storm that has already begun. I think that the only way to be able to face this storm is knowledge, preparation, degrees, but also helping the kids who graduate to give them a future where they can work and converge this knowledge, basic research and specialized research.
All this is essential to be able to move forward and bet on the new challenges that will come. They will be very difficult challenges, we know, only great preparation will be able to help us get through this moment. I must say, we live in the present, I think especially of the kids, the children who are at school now. We make television programs to try to transmit not only knowledge, but a way of thinking, scientific thinking.
We say 'I give you the elements to make a decision yourself, but on a rational basis'. This is important". "Coming to Naples is like entering a dream. I am not Neapolitan, but I feel at home". Alberto Angela said after receiving an honorary degree in geology and applied geology at the Federico II University of Naples. Angela, already an honorary citizen of Naples and who has made several successful documentaries about the city, underlined that "Naples is a family that over time has welcomed very different people.
The history of Naples is made up of many stories over the last millennia. This city has the great ability to embrace you and not make you feel like a stranger. This is what I could say to those who ask me about my experience in Naples, it was a great discovery, but above all I feel at home every time I come here and it is an extraordinary feeling”.
