He sold pistols, rifles and ammunition of various types and kinds without making it possible to verify the identity of the buyers, including criminals.
The 41-year-old former owner of a gun shop in Pratola Serra, in the province of Avellino, was arrested by the Carabinieri in execution of the precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge of the Avellino court at the request of the Chief Prosecutor, Domenico Airoma.
The suspect allegedly sold at least 25 firearms clandestinely. The gunsmith was discovered after the arrest last year of a man accused of attempted extortion and assault found in possession of some undeclared guns and related ammunition.
Subsequent investigations have allowed the owner of the gun shop to be identified as the supplier of the weapons, whose license had been revoked in November 2022, resulting in the gun shop being closed. Further investigations are underway after the seizure of documents relating to the movement of weapons found during the house search.
