Michel Landry is the new president of World Physiotherapy. He was elected during the General Meeting underway in Dubai.
“Congratulations to our Canadian colleague - said the president of the Italian Association of Physiotherapy, Simone Cecchetto - AIFI wishes Michel and the entire board good luck in their work; a new phase is opening for the international development of the discipline and science of Physiotherapy for which we are available with the many energies and skills that our Italian reality can make available in various specialist fields”.
Michel D. Landry is a professor at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina (USA) and a researcher in health policy and health services; his area of study covers the policy implications of the gap between the available supply, in relation to financial and human resources, and the growing demand for rehabilitation and health services across the continuum of care.
He is a past president of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and a consultant to many global multilateral agencies including the World Health Organization. He is a proponent of the moral, ethical and economic necessity of ensuring that rehabilitation services are accessible to all regardless of income.
Landry will lead World Physiotherapy for the next 4 years. Vice President will be Sun Fang Jeng, a member of the Taiwan Physical Therapy Association.
The Italian Association of Physiotherapy actively participated in the Dubai meeting with the delegation formed by the National Vice President Andrea Turolla and the national manager for the development of International Relations Michele Cannone.
“Italian Physiotherapy – commented Turolla – is taking on an ever-increasing space at an international level thanks to the presence of several colleagues on the boards of the World Physiotherapy subgroups and thanks to the great work also in this area of our Specialized Interest Groups (GIS)”.
“A big and heartfelt thanks – commented Cannone – also goes to Emma Stokes, outgoing president, for the great work done in these two mandates and to all the candidates and elected officials who have chosen to make their time and energy available to the international organisation”.
Once the General Meeting is over, we will continue with the World Scientific Congress of Physiotherapy, which will be held in Dubai from 2 to 4 June and which will be attended by a large delegation of Italian physiotherapists.
