He left today at Napoli the new Local Police service, wanted by the mayor Gaetano Manfredi, for the control of taxis and public rental cars.
The Tourist Police stations – as anticipated by the mayor during the meeting on transport at the Prefecture – are positioned near the taxi ranks in front of the Central Station in Piazza Garibaldi and the port of Naples at Molo Beverello.
The patrols of 2/3 officers will be present in two shifts to cover the entire day during weekdays, and will guarantee in particular the afternoon and evening time slots on holidays.
The checks aim to prevent the phenomenon of illegal car rental and to ensure the regular performance of the public car and taxi service. "This is the first measure, strongly desired by Mayor Manfredi, to prevent and combat any type of irregularity in a service that plays a strategic role for the city in light of the extraordinary tourist influx that we are recording - said the Councilor for Legality Antonio De Iesu -
. Bringing back compliance with the rules in the places of greatest affluence such as the Station and Beverello means first of all guaranteeing safety and legality to users of public transport, citizens and tourists, but also working in the interest of the majority of operators who represent the healthy part of these categories”.
