The church of Santa Maria della Sapienza in Naples, a historic building closed to public worship since the middle of the last century, will finally be returned to the community.
Invitalia has launched a tender for the restoration and seismic risk mitigation work of the Church of the Fondo Edifici di Culto, located on Via Santa Maria di Costantinopoli, which survived the demolition of the monastery of the same name due to the construction of the Twentieth Century University Clinics.
Invitalia, as Central Procurement Office for the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Municipality of Naples, has published the tender procedure worth over 2,8 million euros on the InGaTe platform.
Bids must be submitted by July 11, 2023. However, an on-site inspection must be booked by June 23, which will then take place on June 27, 2023.
The inspection must be booked through the same Invitalia platform – Online Tenders. The tender was designed with a comprehensive and coherent vision of the Church of Santa Maria della Sapienza in mind, through a comprehensive set of restoration interventions—on the roofs, frescoes, and stucco—and an assessment of its vulnerability.
The work will involve the complete restoration of the liturgical hall, the upper women's gallery, and the roofs, restoring their historic religious function and visual unity. Work will also include measures to improve full accessibility, with clear separation of routes, and upgrades to the building's utilities. Seismic risk assessments will be carried out, with subsequent consolidation work planned.
