A breakthrough has been reached in the investigation into the murder of 86-year-old pensioner Luigi Panzieri, whose body was found in the early morning of April 6, 2022, inside his home in Colleverde, a hamlet in the municipality of Guidonia Montecelio.

The investigators of the Flying Squad of the capital and of the Tivoli-Guidonia Police Station proceeded with the arrest, on the orders of the investigating judge of the Tivoli court, of the pensioner's housekeeper, a 47-year-old woman, and her 51-year-old partner.

According to what emerged from the investigations, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Tivoli, the two suspects close to the victim, taking advantage of the domestic relationship carried out by the woman at the elderly man's residence, allegedly stabbed him to death to take possession of valuables and cash.

The couple, in fact, were charged with the crime of aggravated robbery and the crime of improper use of credit cards, for having taken possession of a necklace and 4 gold rings, as well as a smart booklet card and a Postepay, by means of which, immediately after the murder, the suspects had made some ATM withdrawals for 700 euros.

After the bank withdrawals, the woman returned to the victim's house and, in an attempt to establish an alibi, rang the intercom of the Panzieri, pretending to be surprised by the lack of response, then alerting the concierge who contacted the victim's daughter; the latter, who arrived shortly after on the scene, entered the house and discovered what had happened.

According to what was ascertained by investigators a few days after the crime, the 51-year-old who ended up in prison, driven by the intention of 'eliminating' the woman and gaining impunity for the murder, accompanied his partner to a household goods store, to make her buy a bottle of hydrochloric acid with which she would have to attempt suicide, to simulate with the police a sort of remorse for what she had committed.

The whole thing, as the investigating judge himself acknowledges, had been planned by the man to "ensure the silence of the only person who could have placed him on the crime scene with the right role", considering that the ingestion of muriatic acid could have killed the woman; fortunately, for reasons beyond his control, the incitement towards the woman to take her own life did not come to fruition.
