The President of the Province Giorgio Magliocca accompanied this morning the mayors and administrators of Sessa Aurunca, Cellole, Mondragone and Castel Volturno in an inspection at the mouth of the Garigliano river to personally verify the functioning of the so-called sea-sweeping boat, the vessel used since the beginning of June for the monitoring and cleaning service of the waters of the Caserta coast.
With President Magliocca there were the mayors Lorenzo Di Iorio (Sessa Aurunca), Guido Di Leone (Cellole), Luigi Umberto Petrella (Castel Volturno), the deputy mayor of Mondragone Marco Pacifico, the provincial councilors Giovanni Iovino and Ciro Marcigliano, the director of the Environmental Sector of the Province Giovanni Solino, responsible for the project.
The vessel, supplied with qualified personnel by Garbage Group of Ancona, is specialized in anti-pollution and depollution operations at sea, with the removal of floating and semi-submerged solid waste, oily and greasy substances, foams and hydrocarbons.
The vessel also features a drone for surveillance and detection of floating waste and a remote-controlled submarine to scan the seabed and georeference the waste.
“I thank once again – said President Magliocca – the mayors of the area for providing support and collaboration both in the organizational phase and in the current operational phase. This is only the first part of an ambitious project that aims to make the accessibility to the beaches and the bathing of the coast increasingly usable and dignified.
To cover the more than forty kilometers of coast, a second vessel will arrive in the next few days, with mooring and waste disposal points set up at the mouths of the Garigliano and Volturno rivers.
And we are studying the possibility of installing collection grids on the waterways – he concluded – that block the larger waste, especially plastics, before they reach the sea. In short, a beautiful environmental remediation project that, I am sure, will bring important results”
