An unreleased, unique concert with an international sound, imagined exclusively for Amalfi. Directly from the USA, Kid Creole & The Coconuts with Frankie & Canthina Band will be the special guests who will open “Amalfi in Jazz”, next Friday 7 July 2023 at 22 pm, with free access in Piazza Duomo.
An extraordinary opening with a legend of world jazz for the international review, included in the broader and more varied program of summer events "Amalfi Summer Fest", promoted by the Municipal Administration led by Mayor Daniele Milano, curated by councilor Enza Cobalto with delegation to Culture and Cultural Heritage, Events and Traditions.
The Amalfi night is ready to ignite, with the powerful and suggestive sound that will overwhelm the viewer.
"We are honored to be able to host a live event created exclusively for us, in response to the beauty of the Amalfi Coast: a unique event recognized throughout the world. – underlines the Mayor Daniele Milano – “Amalfi in Jazz” will be a journey around the world in the name of interplay and improvisation, with Latin, Caribbean, funk, soul, blues and swing influences. A varied cultural proposal that is transversal to the various age groups. Amalfi in Jazz will conquer those who have chosen our territory as a tourist destination, as well as our citizens. It will help make the experience in Amalfi unforgettable”.
The illuminated architecture of the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea acts as a backdrop, the elegant living room of Amalfi that transforms itself into an 'en plein air' amphitheater with its monumental staircase.
“Piazza Duomo is transformed into a natural living room, with atmospheric music. The lights go out, only the architecture of the Duomo is illuminated and poetry opens up to the gaze of the spectator. We will go through all the nuances of jazz – says the curator of the summer program, councilor Enza Cobalto – All events will be free to enter, so it will be an additional opportunity to attend live concerts by great stars and musicians. Art cannot have barriers, it must reach everyone. There will be four events of great live music to make the Amalfi evenings even more enjoyable, to give joy and suggestive atmospheres”.
Kid Creole & the Coconuts are an American musical group, directed by August Darnell. Their music, very rhythmic, incorporates various styles, from salsa to Caribbean rhythms with jazz influences. The Coconuts are a female trio of backing vocals that accompanies Kid Creole, with the characteristic typically vintage look, which is inspired by the forties and fifties.
Thomas August Darnell Browder (alias August Darnell, alias Kid Creole) was born in Montréal, Canada, on August 12, 1950, raised in the Bronx, the famous district of New York: today he is a producer, lives and works between London and Sweden. Darnell, whose stage name is inspired by the Elvis Presley film (King Creole), formed the Coconuts, achieving commercial successes, such as the 1982 album Tropical Gangsters, which contained three major hits: Stool Pigeon, Annie, I 'm Not Your Daddy and I'm a Wonderful Thing, Baby. There are many albums released around the world.
Accompanying Kid Creole & The Coconuts in the live, will be Frankie & Canthina Band, who return to Amalfi after last year's success, when they made all of Piazza Duomo dance.
To compose the training Frankie Lo Vecchio, lead singer; Fabio Sinigaglia, Guitarist/Composer; Massimo Idà, arranger; Marco Iannarilli, one of the founders of the band; Marcello Surace, Drums; Giancarlo Ciminelli, trumpet; Franco Marinacci, Saxophonist
Thirty years of playing live in clubs and squares throughout Italy and abroad, leaving rivers of Earth Wind & Fire and Kool & The Gang on those stages every night. Raised between the low frequencies of Barry White and the high ones of Michael Jackson, between the winds of EW&F and the jazz of Quincy Jones, the warm voice of Luther Vandross and the elegance of Chic, the funky of KC & The Sunshine Band, the popular Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Whispers, Delegation. Today F&CB is still hyperactive in the live world, boasting of collaborations with artists such as Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Delegation, The Trammps, Kool & The Gang, The Real Thing, The Ritchie Family, etc. He has 4 CDs to his credit including one made up of unreleased tracks and is working on the fifth which should come out next winter.
