The idea is to create a national network of Italian musical municipalities, working on a memorandum of understanding.
This is the decision taken at the Pan Palazzo delle Arti Napoli, within the Working Table “Musical Municipalities in Italy”, an event that involved Naples and eight guest municipalities Bologna, Brescia, Catania, Cremona, Melpignano, Pesaro, Turin and Verona, waiting in the city in October for the first time the Festival of Musical Tourism.
The meeting laid the foundations for the creation of the first national network between local administrations in Italy that work and invest in the development of projects that see music as a central asset for territorial development.
The Round Table was organized by Butik, a social enterprise specialized in musical tourism, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism of the Municipality of Naples led by Councilor Teresa Armato, in line with the Naples City of Music project with the Mayor's delegate for the music and audiovisual industry Ferdinando Tozzi.
Councilor Armato welcomed the representatives of the Municipalities, underlining how "we are working synergistically with the music office and Ferdinando Tozzi to create important opportunities for tourist attraction starting from music, uniting tradition and young talents, enhancing music venues in different municipalities precisely to focus on polycentric Naples. By promoting the organization of large events that can have national and international appeal and by teaming up with other Italian municipalities, we can all benefit from it".
A thought also shared by Ferdinando Tozzi. «Music attracts and, if put into a system, creates development opportunities for various sectors, especially for tourism. This is the music industry. Having here the delegates of Italian musical municipalities who decide to commit and create a system starting from the music of their places to mutually enhance it and make it known to an ever wider audience by networking, is a fundamental success for us. We will work with the musical and tourist operators right away and then, in October, with the Festival del Turismo Musicale, return all the results of the work and pay homage to the young Neapolitan musical talents but above all to the great James Senese».
The day had as its primary objective that of strengthening the connections between the participating Municipalities: during the morning two panels were organized “Networking” and “Musical Municipalities and good practices”, in which the respective policies and initiatives for the promotion of the local musical heritage were described.
During the afternoon, the participants were divided into Working Tables to create a joint manifesto to represent and describe the future network of Musical Municipalities in Italy, imagining musical and tourist events and activities to connect the Municipalities throughout the year.
The day ended with the expression of will and commitment, by all participating Municipalities, to create a national network of Musical Municipalities with a first shared protocol, on which the Municipalities in the network will work in synergy, finalizing the document by October, on the occasion of the 2023 Music Tourism Festival in Naples.
