A repertoire of Tango, Latin Bolero and Tango Flamenco interpreted in a jazz key by five extraordinary musicians in an original show made of passion, narration, live music and dance.
On July 8th, “Historia, Tango Nuevo ai confini del jazz” will land at the Teatro del Mare in the city of Maiori, on the Amalfi Coast. This theatrical show has an original format, combining narration, live music and two-person dancing to tell a story of passion and redemption over the machismo that looms over Buenos Aires in the 30s, right in the places where tango originated.
The event (21 pm, free admission, with the possibility of reserving a free seat online on Eventbrite) opens the “Maiori Danza” review as part of the “Maiori Welkhome Summer 2023” program.
Many protagonists of the Rai 1 program “Ballando con le Stelle” will take to the stage: the beloved dance teachers Veera Kinnunen and Samuel Peron, together with the extraordinary voice of Stefania Caracciolo and the live music of five professional musicians: Daniele Bocchini (trombone), Marco Postacchini (sax, flute, arrangements), Enzo Proietti (piano), Roberto Gazzani (double bass) and Mauro Parma (drums).
Freely inspired by the figure of Azucena Maizani, one of the first female drag performers to sing tango in the 1930s, the show, created by Daniele Bocchini and produced by TGC Eventi, valorizes talent and passion for music as tools of emancipation and survival in a strongly chauvinistic society that is prejudicial towards women's freedom and dignity.
On the notes of tango in jazz style, the musical program of Historia passes through the Cuban son of Miguel Metamoroso, Osvaldo Farrès, Isolina Carrillo up to the international pop of Sting, Amy Winehouse, Cher and Pino Daniele, through the elegance of Tango, Latin Bolero and Tango Flamenco. The jazz-style arrangements want to recall the stylistic provocation introduced in the 60s by Astor Piazzolla, with innovative musical elements, capable of enhancing and expanding the expressive power of modern tango, to which the sextet of musicians and the couple of dancers, interspersed with the narrative voice, will add pathos and erotic emotion.
