Sunday 23 July the appointment with the awaited concert of Pomigliano Jazz on the crater of Vesuvius is renewed. In the now traditional event at sunset on the edge of the crater of the Gran Cono, this year the Tunisian composer and singer Dhafer Youssef, the most creative oud player on the contemporary scene, will perform.
He will share the stage set up at an altitude of 1200 meters, on the summit of the most famous volcano in the world, the Norwegian guitarist Eivind Aarset. Together they will give life to an original project commissioned by the festival directed by Onofrio Piccolo, with the evocative title: Sounds of Vesuvius. A unique and unrepeatable performance, in a location of great charm and suggestion that will see the participation of Luca Aquino on the trumpet, as a special guest.
Tickets to attend the Dhafer Youssef 'Suoni del Vesuvio' concert are available on the Azzurro Service and Vivaticket circuits and in the main regional sales points at a cost of 25 euros + presale. For children under 18, tickets are available at the reduced price of 15 euros + presale. For information: tel. 081 5934001 – www.azzurroservice.net.
Born in 1967 in Téboulba, Tunisia, Dhafer Youssef is at the forefront of a movement in contemporary music that bridges the gap between Eastern and Western influences. In 25 years of career he has released ten albums – the latest, “Street Of Minarets” in 2023, with great guests such as Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller and Dave Holland – that show his musical ability and his ability to transcend genres. Ranging from jazz, electronic, world music and fusion, without denying his origins and the Sufi tradition.
His critically acclaimed work has earned him the BBC Award in 2006 and the Edison Award 2017, as well as a place in the 2015 UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization All-Star Global Concert. He is also highly regarded in the film industry, having worked on soundtracks for films by Ridley Scott (Exodus: Gods and Kings), James Horner (The Amazing Spider-Man, Black Gold) and Dave McKean (Luna).
For this unprecedented performance on Vesuvius at the 28th edition of the Pomigliano Jazz festival, Dhafer Youssef will talk with Eivind Aarset, a Norwegian guitarist who has already worked with him on several projects. A true innovator of the six strings, Aarset is one of the leading figures in the composite Scandinavian musical universe. An eclectic musician who moves with extreme ease between jazz, post rock and avant-garde.
Completing the lineup will be the trumpet of Luca Aquino, one of the most appreciated Italian jazz musicians on the international scene.
The event at Vesuvius is a unique experience and the concert represents its central part. For this reason the public is asked to observe some fundamental rules, in order to fully live this emotional experience.
TIMES: The meeting point is at 16.30:1.000 pm at the XNUMX meter high square in Ercolano, where there are refreshment points. From the square you go up on foot accompanied by volcanological guides, along a series of extraordinarily panoramic hairpin bends that lead to the edge of the crater. Once you reach the top, you can watch the concert sitting on cushions on the ground.
The musicians will play until sunset. At the end of the concert, you will return to the square, always accompanied by volcanological guides.
To best experience the event, comfortable equipment is recommended: sports or trekking shoes, sweatshirt or k-way. The uphill hike is of medium difficulty.
Dhafer Youssef 'Suoni del Vesuvio' joins the lineup of the 20th edition of the Pomigliano Jazz festival which has already announced concerts by Manhattan Transfer (July 26 at the Roman amphitheater in Avella), Avishai Cohen 'Banda Iroko' (July 29 at the public park in Pomigliano d'Arco) and Mike Stern Band (July XNUMX at the public park in Pomigliano d'Arco).
Planned and financed by the Campania Region and the Ministry of Culture, the festival is organised by the Pomigliano Jazz Foundation with Scabec, in partnership with the Vesuvius National Park Authority and the municipalities of Pomigliano d'Arco and Avella.
