The first suspects in the investigation file opened for the manslaughter by the prosecutor's office funfair in relation to the death of Stephan, the 8-year-old boy who died on Thursday afternoon at the spa in Creton a Palombara Sabina, center in the province of RomaThe child was sucked into the drain of one of the facility's three swimming pools while cleaning and emptying operations were underway.
The spa was seized by the judiciary and the prosecutor in charge of the investigation carried out an inspection together with the Carabinieri, who were entrusted with the investigation, and the ASL staff. The aim of the investigators is to ascertain the dynamics of what happened shortly after 18.30:17 p.m. on August XNUMX.
The investigation aims to shed light first of all on any shortcomings in the implementation of safety regulations within the structure which is located approximately 30 km from RomaThe child's body, recovered by divers from the Rome Fire Department after a complex activity lasting about two hours, was made available to the judicial authority who will assign the task of carrying out the autopsy.
The forensic activity will be carried out by the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Umberto I Polyclinic. In the meantime, investigators are lining up the various pieces of evidence collected in these hours, also listening to a series of witnesses - starting with the little boy's family members who are not at peace and are now wondering how it was possible for him to die in that way - and acquiring the footage from the security cameras present inside the spa.
It is currently unclear whether the boy, who lived with his family in Monterotondo, was in the pool when the emptying began or whether he inadvertently fell into the pool. According to what was ascertained, his little sister was also present with him and did not notice what had happened.
The turbine dragged him under the water: the child would have been carried down by the violent vortex of the drain outlet. Stephan, in a few seconds, was sucked into the drain pipes and drowned. The attempts of those present to save his life were in vain. The investigators are examining the safety systems: the swimming pool where the tragedy occurred would in fact have been without the safety grate that blocks access to the drain.
An element that could be decisive in determining responsibilities. On this point, answers will come from the owner of the facility who will have to provide useful elements for the investigations also on the tasks assigned to the lifeguards inside the facility and in general to the security personnel in accessing the pools.
