A manhunt that lasted months, ended a few hours ago in a sumptuous villa with swimming pool. We are a few steps from the coast of Giugliano in Campania, in the hamlet of Varcaturo.
It is there that the Carabinieri of the investigative unit of Castello di Cisterna arrested Luigi Cacciapuoti, 64 years old, head of the clan that bears his surname, operating in the municipality of villaricca.
A ghost since last February, Cacciapuoti will have to serve 15 years in prison for mafia-type association.
The military searched for him for a long time, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Naples. Thanks to traditional and technical investigations, monitoring of social media and financial movements, they managed to to circumscribe the area where the 64-year-old was likely hiding.
Varcaturo: but the exact location was still unclear. So they explored every possible lead, combing the entire area inch by inch. That was until the day a little dog and the investigators' nose suggested his hideout.

He was looking out of a half-closed window of a large villa.
An animal like many others which, however, aroused in the investigators the suspicion that that chalet was precisely the fugitive's refuge.
So they planned the raid and analyzed every possible escape route. They also studied the municipal sewer system that ran underground. Nothing was left to chance.
Then the entrance, in force. All exits were blocked, the villa surrounded.
Cacciapuoti noticed it when the carabinieri were just a step away from him, lying by the pool while he was leafing through a newspaper. Newspaper opened on a news page of the camorra of Ponticelli.
He had a fake identity card
He did not resist and the handcuffs snapped onto his wrists. The villa was seized and so were the identity documents that the 64-year-old was carrying with him: his photo but also the another person's data.
The man is now in the Secondigliano prison. Also arrested was the womens in his company for aiding and abetting and procured non-compliance with punishment, aggravated by mafia methods. She was taken to the prison of Pozzuoli.
