According to the data of the 28th Annual Report on the separate collection and recycling of paper and cardboard in Italy released by Comieco, the National Consortium for the Recovery and Recycling of Cellulose-based Packaging, in Campania Just over 220.000 tonnes of cellulosic material were collected during 2022, 0,6% less than in 2021.
This result is conditioned by the generalized decline in consumption – especially food – linked to the increase in energy and raw material costs with effects on inflation rates and a consequent reduction in waste production of over 1 million tons in our country, equal to over -3%.
"After the good results achieved in 2021, in Campania we are witnessing a slowdown that can be considered physiological. The data we are recording indicates a slight setback (-0,6%) in the separate collection of paper and cardboard with approximately 1.000 fewer tons collected in 2022, but to be seen in a general reduction in urban waste throughout Italy" comments Carlo Montalbetti, General Manager of Comieco.
“The average per capita yield of 39,6 kg is still far from the average values of the South (47,3 kg/inhabitant) and nationally (61,5 kg/inhabitant). Campania is one of the strategic areas for the expected development in the coming years. A change of pace is essential not only in quantitative terms but also and, above all, qualitative: there is no lack of room for improvement from both points of view”. In 2022, Comieco managed more than 177.000 tons of paper and cardboard through the agreements active in the Campania region, equal to 80% of the total collection. The 458 municipalities that have signed up have been recognized with compensation for more than 15,3 million euros.
