From 2 to 6 August 2023. Threshing, rediscovery of ancient traditions, culture, identity, typical dishes and recovery of the 100% green rural vision, immersed in the authentic atmosphere of the peasant festival and in the extraordinary beauty of Cilento, between knowledge and an archaic wisdom
It is one of the most anticipated events of the summer in the suggestive town of Carretiello di Roccadaspide, in the province of Salerno, in Cilento. From 2 to 6 August 2023, the Association "Carretiello in Evoluzione" proudly presents the "Festa della Civiltà Contadina e della Trebbiatura", an unmissable opportunity to immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of the peasant traditions of the past.
An initiative whose mission is to safeguard the cultural identity of places and their traditions, starting with the safeguarding of the agro-rural biodiversity that the internal areas of Campania are rich in. Ancient fruits and seeds, olive groves, tree-lined gardens, Mediterranean scrub scented with flowering brooms, medicinal herbs, valleys and fields that develop along the heights.
An uncontaminated nature to be protected and preserved, historic centers and villages that capture the eye with their extraordinary beauty, sustainable and resilient agriculture: the latter is a precious resource to be passed down to future generations, an irreproducible reserve of knowledge and archaic wisdom that has come down to us through an evolutionary path spanning millennia.
Five days of celebration to immerse yourself in an evocative atmosphere, to discover the traditions handed down from generation to generation, the typical local dishes of the Mediterranean Diet, ancient crafts and practices of the Mediterranean culture, but above all conviviality.
Being together and eating together, meeting, between dances, drums, tarantellas and popular music, to recover the dimension of recreational and social aggregation, identifying places, to strengthen collective identity.
Culture, conviviality, but also slow tourism, to live an experience of beauty through itineraries in the wonderful places of Cilento, outside the stress of urban areas, to recover the simplicity of bonds and relationships with others.
The Festa della Civiltà Contadina will open with the suggestive parade of vintage vehicles on August 2nd at 16:00 pm: a tangible testimony of the historical legacy of this community. At 19:00 pm, we will have the honor of attending the opening ceremony of the event, enriched by the “Blessing of the grain” and a demonstration of threshing in the farmyard, allowing all those present to discover the methods and equipment once used for processing the crops.
The wheat harvest was the highlight of the year of work on the land, which involved the whole community, summarizing a sense of belonging to the economic and social system, then accompanied by the great celebration of choreographic dances and music after the great effort in the fields.
The hearts and palates of visitors will also be conquered by the delicious tasting of typical local dishes and delicacies from the threshing period. Among the specialties that can be tasted, braciola al sugo, cavatielli al sugo, delicacies prepared with goat cheese and a delicious appetizer with local native cured meats.
It doesn't end here, however: enthusiasts of vintage vehicles will be enchanted by the displays of historic tractors, which tell the story of agriculture of the past. The threshing demonstrations, carried out with a vintage Orsi thresher, will give those present a real history lesson, showing the techniques used by our ancestors to separate the wheat from the straw.
The evenings will be enlivened by engaging live musical performances with local folk bands, which will make the atmosphere even more festive and engaging. The music of the Gruppo Atmosfera, Tonino Battagliese ei Cugini del liscio, Silvestro Folk, Rosario Lullo e Family Band, and many other artists, will accompany guests on a journey through the traditional sounds of our land.
And on Sunday we all have lunch together, in search of authentic and genuine flavors, among the charm of the countryside, the ancient paths, the traditional peasant dishes, between history and legends, in a recovery of the 100% green rural vision.
