“We were sailing from the island of Li Galli towards Amalfi.
At the height of the Furore Fjord, about 500 meters off the coast, a vessel coming in the opposite direction suddenly reverses course at a speed of between 20 and 25 knots, literally cutting us off and then impacting under our bow”.It is the reconstruction that Tony Gallocommander of the SeamTurtle – the sailing vessel hit by a hull in the accident that cost the life of an American tourist – makes the incident known in an interview with Fanpage.
“We took immediate action – Gallo emphasizes – to alert the rescue and recover the shipwrecked. The woman who later died was recovered by two doctors who were on board, she was taken to the port of Amalfi with a passing motorboat. On land she was still alive, unfortunately they were unable to save her”.
“Boats, as is well known, do not have brakes. The moment you have stopped the engines and put the boat into reverse to stop the motorcycle inertial, the reaction times are not those seen on the road. At the moment of impact my boat had its engines stopped.
The other one, as can also be seen from the videos handed over to the judiciary, still had the propeller engaged, even after the impact", concludes the commander of the Tortuga.
“This incident is unacceptable and I have asked for more controls at sea. Those who caused this tragedy must be held accountable in the appropriate places.
It is unacceptable that what is already happening on the streets should happen at sea without any respect for the rules and without any attention to the minimum safety criteria. It took a tragedy to understand that we cannot continue in this direction. I am very saddened and publicly express my condolences to the victim's family".
Thus on social media the deputy of the Green Left Alliance Francesco Emilio Borrelli commenting on the death of the 45-year-old American tourist which occurred last night after an accident in the waters of the Furore fjord, on the Amalfi coast.
