Ilaria Abagnale, mayor of Sant'Antonio Abate: “Waste fire in Fosso del Mulino, two people responsible identified”.

The flames had also reached the purifier of Scafati. The mayor: “Excellent work by the Local Police.”

“Thanks to the excellent work carried out by the Abate Local Police officers, those responsible for the deliberate burning of waste that occurred in recent days near the Marna, a stone's throw from the purification plant, have been identified and reported to the judicial authorities. Scafati". The announcement was made by Ilaria Abagnale, mayor of Sant'Antonio Abate.

The alarm was raised on the afternoon of Sunday 13 August, in the Fosso del Mulino area, where a fire had been set to a pile of special waste (a mattress, some painted furniture panels, a chair) that had been illegally dumped shortly before.

The fire had rapidly spread to the brush in the area until it reached the nearby purification plant managed by Gori, and the intervention of the Fire Brigade was essential to put out the flames.

“Thanks to the acquisition of footage from the video surveillance cameras present – explains the mayor Ilaria Abagnale – the officers under the command of commander Giuseppe Capuano have located and identified two men, who have been reported”.

These are EM and EG, owners of a scrap wholesale business, filmed by some cameras on board a three-wheeler for the transport of waste. The Local Police of Sant'Antonio Abate proceeded to report the two men to the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office for the crimes of waste abandonment, arson and environmental disaster, also highlighting their previous convictions for illegal waste management.

“For some time we had been collecting reports of illegal waste dumping near the banks of the Marna – says Ilaria Abagnale – and we had set up a series of initiatives to raise awareness among citizens about protecting the environment and taking care of separate waste collection, also intensifying on-site checks.

Thanks to the Abatese Local Police, the first alleged perpetrators have now been identified and reported for environmental crimes. The Marna and the environment in general – concludes the mayor of Sant'Antonio Abate – are precious assets that we must protect and defend, for the future of our territories and for everyone's health”.
