A new life for the illegal fishing traps confiscated in the sea of Ischia: they will become waste bins installed on the beaches.
The numerous illegal fishing gear seized in the protected area around the islet of Sant'Angelo, instead of ending up in landfill, will follow a virtuous path of creative recycling within the scope of the “Rete Civica” project.
Project promoted by the maritime district office of Ischia with the coordination of the Maritime Directorate of Campania and with the collaboration of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples, which authorized the conversion of confiscated assets into objects of public utility.
The traps, objects used to commit an environmental crime, in their alternative function become an element of public utility or a bin for separate waste collection on the beaches and therefore a tool for the defense of the territory.
Fundamental to the realization of the concept was the contribution of the Nautical Technical Institute of Ischia "Cristofaro Mennella" which physically created the objects. The baskets will be placed on the beaches of Forio in collaboration with the municipality.
The presentation of the project is scheduled for Wednesday 16 August at the ANMI headquarters at the port of Forio with the participation of Stani Verde, mayor of Forio, lieutenant Antonio Cipresso, commander of the maritime district office of Ischia, and the director of the kingdom of Nettuno, Antonino Miccio.
