Franz Beckenbauer, the legendary Kaiser of Calcium German, has not been seen in public for some time and now the concern about the conditions of the two-time Ballon d'Or winner and former coach has grown after the words of another German champion: Lothar Matthaus, captain led by Beckenbauer in the historic World Cup Italy '90.

“We all wish him good health, that he returns to being the same, with his energy. We hope he gets better. Franz always said that health is the most important thing. At the moment he doesn't have it”, said the former Inter player. On July 9, the German world champions of the Magic Nights of '90 gathered in Bavaria to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of their feat.

But their coach, Kaiser, could not be there, he confirms Matthäus, who tells his coach: “Get back to feeling good, just like before”. The health conditions of Beckenbauer, 77 years old, have been considered fragile for some time. At the beginning of the year the champion was unable to go to Brazil to say his last farewell to another football legend, Pele. “I would love to do it, but unfortunately my health does not allow me to fly that long. I will accompany my friend with all my heart on his last journey”, Beckenbauer himself told Bild.

Much loved in his homeland, the Kaiser was a World Champion as a player, at home in 1974, and as a coach, winning in 1990 in Rome, against Maradona's Argentina. Winner of two Ballon d'Ors (in 1972 and 1976), his list of achievements also includes, among other trophies, the 1972 European Championship in Belgium, three Champions Cups and a Cup Winners' Cup as a player with Bayern Munich, six German championships (five as a player and one as a coach) and a UEFA Cup as coach of Bayern in 1996.

An extremely elegant and intelligent player, the Kaiser was able to revolutionize the role of the defender in an era in which many of his colleagues were limited to tackling the opposition's attackers. Towards the end of his career on the pitch, Beckenbauer was also one of the pioneers of moving overseas: in 1977 he went to play for the New York Cosmos, meeting Pelé in the team and choosing the United States almost half a century before Lionel Messi.
