The African anticyclone Nerone is ready to invade Italy: the heat suffered up to today, in fact, is just the appetizer of an even hotter "dish" arriving this weekend.
Nerone, therefore, will strengthen by the weekend and will bring a further increase in temperatures of at least 3-4 degrees: the current 37 degrees in Florence are expected to go up to 40 between Sunday and Monday, then we will have a jump from 34 to 38 degrees in Milan, an increase in Rome from 33 to 37 degrees.
“Since we are almost at the end of summer: these exceptional numbers, if they were to occur between Sunday and Tuesday, would represent a record value for the month of August,” according to meteorologists.
Furthermore, it would be an 'August' record that did not occur at the beginning of the month (shortly after the end of the hottest month of the year, July), but about 10 days after the beginning of September. And this would make the difference, confirming the extraordinary, anomalous, worrying umpteenth 'late' heat wave”.
Nerone at the end of summer therefore brings record temperatures and not only: another value that could surprise everyone is the freezing level. It is expected at 5200 meters between Sunday and Monday, especially in the Western Alps.
The freezing level is the altitude at which, in the free atmosphere, the temperature goes from positive to negative values: 5200 meters would be a new surprising figure, reached only a couple of times in a widespread manner in the last 30 years, first on July 20, 1995 and then on July 25, 2022.
