'Good morning, Member of Parliament, I am writing to you as an employee of a hotel where I have worked for years, and among the many strange things that happen in this city with tourists, this morning I was particularly struck by this story which I find absurd to say the least.
Four American customers took a taxi from the airport to the train station last night at 23pm. Piazza Garibaldi or more precisely in via Galileo Ferraris.
The taxi charged him €100.00 for 7 kilometers, which is absurd, especially since there is a predetermined rate for a maximum of 4 people at €19.50. This is the message sent to the deputy of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra Francesco Emilio Borrelli with a receipt attached.
“This is an unacceptable episode – commented Borrelli – for which I immediately asked the taxi drivers' consortia for clarification on the regularity of the tariff applied.
They confirmed that the fare of 19,50 euros is per route and not per passenger and will verify whether the same colleague has issued the correct identification code in the invoice to proceed with the sanctions.
Asking 100 euros for just seven kilometers, even in the evening, is absolutely incorrect. This drives away tourists and damages the image of our city that, after many years and much effort, has managed to return to being one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the world. But tourists are a resource in which to invest in quality of services, not chickens to be plucked illegally. Competition with other European capitals is played in terms of efficiency and hospitality and these episodes definitely do not play in our favor”.
