At the sit-in that will be held tomorrow in Piazza Municipio, NAPLES, to request "treatment and not prison" for Simone Isaia, the man arrested for having set fire to the Venus of the Rags by Michelangelo Pistoletto, the municipal administration itself will also join, through the Prisoners' Guarantor. This is what we learn from the Municipality, which also announced that it will not bear any direct expense for the new work, which will replace the burned one.
“The Municipality of NAPLES has decided, in agreement with the Pistoletto Foundation, to work so that the city can once again enjoy one of the most important and representative works of contemporary art in the Italian panorama,” states the administration, which “reiterates that it will not bear any direct expense. The reconstruction will be supervised by the master Pistoletto himself.”
"This work for the master - the Municipality further emphasizes - has a strong symbolic value in representing the attention to people who, like Isaiah, considered the author of the burning of the work, need assistance and support. The spirit of the 'Rebirth of Venus' is precisely this". And it is "in this perspective" that the Municipality of NAPLES "through the Guarantor of the Prisoners of NAPLES Don Tonino Palmese has joined the sit-in that will be held tomorrow, August 12 at 11 am in support of Simone Isaia".
The Campania Prisoners' Guarantor Samuele Ciambriello also joined the sit-in entitled "Cure, not prison for Simone Isaia". The two guarantors justified their participation by believing that, if the investigations carried out "from a judicial, existential and also family point of view" were to highlight that the conditions for an alternative punishment exist, "there will certainly be our support".
“We hope that the competent magistrates, during the investigations, where they offer new and effective guarantees of protection for the community, can remodulate the custodial measure in place, allowing Simone to face and resolve his personal discomfort, which certainly played a decisive role in this sad story”, conclude the guarantors.
