Italians who decide to celebrate Ferragosto at home by organizing the traditional family lunch will spend an average of 10,7% more this year than last year.

Those who opt for the restaurant will have to take into account an additional expense of approximately +5,3% on 2022. The data comes from Assoutenti which, based on Istat data, today calculates the impact of food price increases on the classic Ferragosto lunch at home or at a restaurant. Considering a lunch for 8 people made at home, the expense for the same consumption increases by approximately 22 euros compared to last year - Assoutenti estimates.

On a potential audience of 15 million families, the overall burden would be equal to 330 million euros. This is because in Italy there are very strong price increases in the entire food sector: the highest increase is that of sugar, whose prices have risen on average by +47,3% compared to last year – Assoutenti analyses.

Olive oil increases by 30,6%, potatoes by 26,9%, rice by 26,7%, tomatoes by 25%, salad by 15,5%. Fresh vegetables increase by an average of 19,8%, fruit by 13,8% with peaks of 24,3% for oranges, 20,8% for stone fruit. Ice creams mark +16,2% on the year.

This summer, soft drinks and beverages are particularly expensive: carbonated drinks are increasing by an average of 18,8%, soft drinks by 16,9%. In detail, the prices of low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beers are increasing by 17,8% (12,8% for alcoholic ones), fruit juices by 14,9%, mineral water by 10,7%.

Meat prices are only up 6,2%, but frozen fish is spending an average of 11,6% more than last year, +18,6% for preserved milk, +12,5% ​​for yogurt, +18,1% for processed cheese – Assoutenti explains. Ready meals are up 10,1%, sauces and condiments are up 10,5%, and packaged pastry products are up 14,3%.

Things will not go any better for those who choose a restaurant for lunch on August 5,3th: rates in the restaurant sector have in fact seen an average increase of +14,5% compared to last year, with peaks of +12,1% in Viterbo, +11,2% in Brindisi, +XNUMX% in Benevento – concludes Assoutenti.
