The Real Sito di Carditello (San Tammaro, Caserta) will host the first edition of the Wimby Fest, a three-day event of music and events in the heart of the Land of Fires. The event aims to refocus Campania's fight against poisons and environmental devastation by raising funds to finance one of the largest research projects on environmental pollution.
Organized by Stop Biocidio in collaboration with the Coop4art consortium, Wimby Fest will feature artists from the Italian music scene, workshops, discussions on climate change, the fight against eco-monsters and alternative development models. The lineup will alternate on stage artists who have made the history of music, those who have distinguished themselves over the years for having addressed issues related to politics, social commitment, counter-information in their lyrics, and new entries in the music scene who are already recognized by the public.
The Wimby fest stage will feature 99 Posse, La Nina, Tony Tammaro, la Famiglia, Iovine, Piotta, Modena City Ramblers, Bandabardò, Speaker Cenzou, Peppoh, Dadà, Tartaglia. The festival takes its name from the history of the struggles of environmental committees around the world.
Wimby is in fact the acronym for “World is my backyard” – literally “the world is my backyard” – in response to “Nimby”, “Not in my backyard” – and the reference is to the accusation leveled at environmental committees, guilty of refusing the construction of polluting plants only near their homes.
And the choice of the location that will be the setting for the first edition is not accidental: for years the Real Sito di Carditello has been at the center of an area used for dumping waste, subsequently completely redeveloped and returned to the enjoyment of the community.
“Wimby – the words of the festival organizers – is this: the plastic representation of the fact that our home, our garden is the entire world. Not only do we want our Campania to be Felix again, but through the music and words of our festival we want to claim a necessary change of direction towards a model of sustainable economy in social, environmental and economic terms”.
