A clandestine gambling den protected by a series of Chinese boxes, the one that the Carabinieri of the local Company raided in the early hours of the morning.
Access to the discovered gaming room on Via Francesco Lugnano in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, in the province of Caserta, was protected by several armored doors and anterooms that, in the event of the arrival of the police, would have allowed those present to hide their money and gambling bets.
The prompt intervention of the Carabinieri, however, left no escape for the manager of the gambling den, a sixty-two-year-old from Caserta, and the 19 people present, from the provinces of Naples and Caserta, who were immediately stopped and identified.
During the search, cash, checks and a valuable watch worth over €45.000,00 were recovered. Some of the banknotes intended for betting on the gaming table had been hidden in paint cans, purses and in the back of some furniture present there.
The twenty people identified were reported at liberty and will have to answer for gambling and participation in the same.
