Tragedy in the late morning in Baunei, Ogliastra, in the cove of Piscine di Venere.
A 28-year-old woman from Nuoro died after being hit by a tree that fell from the cliff overlooking the beach. Attempts to save her by 118 doctors who arrived with the Areus helicopter rescue sent from the Sassari station were in vain.
The young woman died in the arms of rescuers. The carabinieri and the port authority were on site and cleared the beach and closed it to swimmers.
An investigation has been opened into the incident to establish the causes of the tree's fall and any responsibilities.
