“We have given up the effort of educating”. Don Maurizio Patriciello, parish priest of the Verde park in Caivano, says he is saddened after learning of the incident involving the violence against two little cousins who live in the neighborhood where Don Maurizio has been working for years and has been living under escort for some time.

“This story will be talked about for a few days, maybe for a few weeks, but then these two poor girls will carry this trauma with them for their entire lives, they will live this pain with their families,” continues Don Maurizio. “If there are femicides, if there are cases of brutal violence, which occur both in degraded neighborhoods and in more affluent ones, it means that we have made a mistake, we have decided not to educate,” he adds.

Then on the specific subject of Parco Verde, a neighborhood in Caivano that was built to house the displaced people of the 1980 earthquake, the priest goes on the attack: “I’m sorry to say it, but this is a neighborhood that should never have been born: all the poor were crowded together here. And then what was done?” The priest also turns his thoughts to the alleged rapists. “They are victims of educational poverty” and then raises the alarm: “Pornography is now a real emergency. But what do you do?”
