They were placed in a portable refrigerator, with lots of ice, ready to be sold. These are the fifty kilos of fish found abandoned on Via Litoranea in Greek's tower (Naples) by the men of the local maritime department, who under the coordination of the maritime directorate of Campania were engaged in the Vesuvian city in actions to combat the illegal marketing of fish products.
Passing along the Torre del Greco seafront, the personnel of the Port Authority of Torre del Greco identified and then seized approximately 50 kilograms of various fish species (mostly white bream and gilt-head bream), most likely the result of illegal sport fishing. The load had been abandoned by unknown persons inside a portable refrigerator container. Furthermore, the goods were kept cool with ice, also of dubious origin, and were ready to be put on sale, in contempt of health and hygiene regulations.
Having ascertained that the product could not be destined for human consumption, the fish was delivered to the Naples zoo, after having verified – through the competent health service – that the required declaration of conformity for animal consumption was found.
