On August 25, the former President of the United States Donald Trump shared his mug shot taken at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on X (the new name for the “old” Twitter). Trump had turned himself in to authorities and was released after twenty minutes, paying a $200 bail.

Trump Jailed in Atlanta, Released on $200 Bail

This mug shot is the first ever taken of a former U.S. president. It was taken in Georgia, where Trump faces multiple charges of racketeering and conspiracy to subvert the outcome of the 2020 election.

The image is a first for a former US president, and Trump has taken full advantage of this advantage. With the release of the mug shot and the message “Never surrender,” the former president has raised more than seven million dollars for his upcoming election campaign. The funds have come in the form of donations and the sale of merchandise featuring the image. T-shirts, sweatshirts, posters, coffee mugs and stickers featuring Trump’s mug shot, expressing outrage and seemingly promising revenge, are selling for between $12 and $34.

The amount raised is unprecedented. Many of the funds raised will be used for Donald Trump's legal defense in the trials he is facing. According to Corriere della Sera, last Friday, the fundraising for the Republican leader's race to the White House reached 4,18 million dollars in a single day, an amount never seen before.

On September 5, Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in court in Atlanta, where he will plead guilty or not guilty to charges of criminal conspiracy to subvert the outcome of the 2020 Georgia election. It will be the former president's second appearance before a judge, following his appearance in Washington on August 3, where Trump once again pleaded not guilty.
