HISTORY
The historical date is that of 4 September 1460 when the sovereign Ferrante of Aragon delivered, in the Castel Nuovo of Naples, to the mayor of Cava, Onofrio Scannapieco, a blank parchment, already signed and with the royal seal, so that the people of La Cava could write whatever he wished, as a reward for the loyalty shown to the Kingdom and the Crown. But the Cavesi left the immaculate parchment astounding once again the sovereign who, for this, granted "to the valiant and most faithful Cavajuolo people" other numerous and important privileges, among which: the adoption of the Aragonese insignia (the red and gold bands still today present in the civic coat of arms), the exemption from taxes and gabelles on the entire territory of the kingdom, the separation of the customs of Vietri (which was part of the Cavese territory) from the customs of Salerno (principality governed by a feudal lord) and the right of the Cavesi to be judged by the local captain also in the appeal cases, which instead at the time were celebrated in Naples.
The strenuous resistance of the Cavesi to the Angevin breakdowns and the granting of privileges by the Aragonese sovereign are today the fulcrum of the historical theatrical representation "La Pergamena Bianca - 1460 Assedio a la Cava" which will be staged on Saturday 2 September with the magnificent scenography designed by Maestro Michele Paolillo and made directly by the members of the Association. An absolute novelty as well as the decoration of the church for the mass in costume, embellished with drapes and colors of the four ancient districts of the city.
