A few days after the introduction of nameless groups on Whatsapp, our colleagues at WABetaInfo report that the Meta application is working on another important innovation to improve the security of its users.
Specifically, Whatsapp is reportedly developing a feature that will improve the security of calls by routing them through its servers and making it more difficult to determine the location of users. Developers specifically are said to be working on IP address forwarding, routing calls to its servers for greater confidentiality.
The feature is under development and some references have been found in the WhatsApp beta for Android v2.23.18.15 that is currently rolling out via the Play Store. The app should include a new switch in the Settings panel, under the Privacy tab, as shown directly in the screenshot below.
Enabling the switch, as stated directly in the description, “would make it harder for people to determine your location.” However, Whatsapp explains that there could be a reduction in call quality, but it is clear that this is a good compromise for those who want greater security.
Of course, this is an additional layer, since all messages and calls are still protected by end-to-end encryption, which prevents your data from falling into the wrong hands.
