Francesco Costabile's "Family" is Italy's 2026 Oscar nominee: a powerful drama to represent Italy.
“The truth does not exist” was made by the film production company Viceversa and directed by Roberto Cicco. The filming took place in 2021 on the Amalfi Coast, which has always been a source of inspiration for Armando Montella. Main locations: a villa overlooking the Furore fjord and in the rooms of the Cantine Marisa Cuomo.
The plot of the short film revolves around a main character, Roberto. An entrepreneur in a winery, the protagonist loses his memory and partly his lucidity due to an illness. What happens to him, however, represents for him an opportunity to put the pieces of the mosaic of his life back together, retracing the choices he made and the desires he had put to sleep. With the help of his wife Maria and his lifelong friend Luca, Roberto regains possession of his past and, at the same time, asks himself a series of existential questions that revolve around a single question: in life, is it better to follow instinct or reason?
"I am particularly proud of this recognition – commented Armando Montella – “La verità non esiste” is one of three Italian productions awarded at a Festival where the winners come from different countries. The jury wanted to reward the screenplay, grasping the value of the plot of the short film. What we have created is an intimate cinematographic work, in which the contrast between passion and reason is at the center, which has tormented each of us at least once in our lives. Roberto's crisis also represents for him an opportunity to face questions that have tormented him all his life and to which, in the end, he will be able to give his own personal answer”.
