The 24-year-old who killed XNUMX-year-old musician Giovanbattista Cutolo told magistrates: “I’ve never shot before, but I see it every day in my neighborhood.”
The investigations conducted by the Flying Squad under the direction of Alfredo Fabbrocini have practically reconstructed all aspects of the murder. Also, there is still an aspect under investigation, and it concerns the weapon used by the murderer.
The investigators - as reported by Il Mattino and the Neapolitan edition of Repubblica - are trying to establish not only the origin of the weapon, but also whether it was used in other episodes.
For example, they suspect that she may have been involved in two shootings that occurred in Spanish Neighborhoods the night between August 30th and 31st, shortly before the murder of Giovanbattista, in via Pasquale Scura and via Girardi.
Ballistic analyses are underway to answer this question. The suspect, assisted by the lawyer Davide Piccirillo, claimed to have found the weapon abandoned on the street under a car by chance, wrapped in a handkerchief and already loaded, together with his friends.
He said: “We were thinking of reselling it in the area under the Walls.” However, many of the 17-year-old’s statements were contradicted by other evidence gathered by investigators, including surveillance camera footage from the premises in Piazza Municipio where the tragedy began.
The young man said he had gone to the club alone, but it emerged that he had arrived with three people, including an adult, on two mopeds.
He claimed to have been frightened after receiving threats from the victim during an argument between his group and the musician's group, which had arisen from a fight on a moped parked outside the pub and which had escalated when one of the boys with the seventeen-year-old had spilled a tube of mayonnaise on the head of one of Cutolo's friends.
However, these circumstances are not confirmed by any other source, and on the contrary, Giovanbattista was wounded before being killed with three gunshots, including one fired with a stool.
As for the gun, the 17-year-old said he asked one of his friends in a panic if he still had the gun they found under the car to defend himself: “Do you have it? Do you have it?” according to his version.
But the investigation and videos tell a different story, as it appears that it was the minor who had the gun in his pants. After shooting, he apparently didn't even realize he had killed the 24-year-old, stating: "I saw him walking normally."
As a result, he hid the gun under a tree and went to play cards while the talented musician lost his life for no reason, victim of three merciless gunshots fired in cold blood.
