Maria Antonietta Cutillo was making a video call with her inseparable friend when she tragically lost her life in the bathtub of her home on the evening of May 2nd.

The Prosecutor's Office Avellino, led by Domenico Airoma, shed light on the death of the sixteen-year-old girl, resident in Montefalcione, in the province of Avellino. The cause of death was attributed to a non-compliant charger, produced and imported into Italy from China, which caused an electric shock when the victim's phone slipped in the bathtub.

The friend she was talking to on the phone raised the alarm with a heart-rending scream, which was followed by the call being disconnected. Five businessmen are currently under investigation, four of them Chinese.

These individuals have operational headquarters in several Italian cities, including Calenzano, Sesto Fiorentino and Pontedera in the province of Florence, and in Trezzano sul Naviglio, in the province of Milan. They are being investigated for manslaughter, as well as commercial fraud and sale of industrial products with false trademarks.

Authorities carried out seizures at the offices of these businessmen, confiscating a large number of battery chargers similar to the one believed to be responsible for the death of the young woman from Avellino.

The Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office, under the supervision of Magistrate Vincenzo Toscana, has also initiated a series of large-scale inspections of Italian and foreign shops that sell electrical equipment for cell phones, with particular attention paid to chargers.

Maria Antonietta's tragedy deeply shocked the province of Avellino and the community of Montefalcione. The young woman was in her second year at a hotel management school in the Irpinia capital and had already chosen a food and wine major for the following three years.

She had a dream of becoming a famous television chef, a dream she shared with friends and teachers, who today remember her as a sunny, diligent girl eager to learn.

In addition to her studies, she spent her free time helping her father in the management of a butcher shop. Even today, her neighbors fondly remember her as a special person, deeply attached to her family, and everyone considered her the ideal daughter.

After four months of in-depth investigations, all other theories previously advanced were discarded: from the hair dryer falling into the water to the telephone that triggered the tragic electric shock. The conclusion of the Carabinieri of the Information Technology Department was clear: if the charger had complied with the regulations, Maria Antonietta would still be alive.
