The nine boys of the gang were described as "brutal" and "merciless" by the juvenile judge, Umberto Lucarelli, in the investigation into the rapes of the cousins of Caivano.
Some of them are still little more than children, but they already have criminal records. They are accused of committing acts of violence against two defenseless girls, threatening them and treating them like objects.
The judge ordered the transfer of six minors to a juvenile prison and the placement of a seventh in a community. The two adults, however, were imprisoned by decision of the ordinary judge.
According to the judge, the nine suspects demonstrated "unscrupulousness" and their personalities were described as "absolutely disturbing." They believed they could subdue their victims for a long time, thanks to the shame they had instilled in them by threatening to release videos of the abuse or reveal everything to the victims' fathers.
The judge also highlighted the boys' total lack of mercy and the humiliating level to which they subjected their victims.

It emerged that some of the suspects already have criminal records, despite their young age. They were charged with crimes such as harassment, assault, extortion, and possession of knives. One of the boys had previously been involved in an attempted rape of another girl, but due to his age, he was not prosecuted.
The families of four of the suspects have serious and extensive criminal records, which indicates that the families are unable to ensure adequate supervision of minors. The two girls who were victims of this brutal violence have been placed in a community to begin a recovery process, which is expected to be long and difficult.
One of the two victims is alone and has no family to support her as she grows up. The other victim also comes from a family with serious financial difficulties. Both situations prevented the girls from sharing the abuse they suffered and from seeking help.
However, when the incident was reported to the police, the girls opened up and finally found someone to confide their ordeals in. The two victims' accounts were described as "liberating" and revealed secrets they had never had the courage to share, not even with their own parents.
